Just got done watching the Women's Skateboard Street (Heats and Finals) and it had some solid
skating from a few people of note. Overall, I'd say 5 of the 16 girls were worth watching and the
rest were just filler. Lacey Baker did great in qualifying, but just didn't step up in the finals. Marisa
Dal Santo who won last year was fairly dialed in for a Bronze this year until Rachel Reinhard pulled
a sweet double flip up and over the chain gap near the end of her run. It was definitely the best trick
of the women's street contest. Leticia Bufoni who I was pulling for put in some good work and had
overall pretty solid runs with that classic Brazilian park style that just flows. Unfortunately for her
and the rest of the competitors they just couldn't keep up with Alexis Sablone who ran roughshod
over the Finals with he "Burly" style as Sal put it. With some solid flips over various size gaps, kickflip
-> 50-50 -> Fakie down the big rail, etc she nailed the competition very well.
Was a fun watch overall and my only real complaints were that some skaters really should not have
been in because of their lack of talent/motivation and that Elissa Steamer needs to get the fuck out
of peoples ways. Somehow she got 6th place while at the same time skating with no inspiration and
moving like a three-toed sloth getting in the way of multiple skaters runs.
Final Results:
1. Alexis Sablone [US]
2. Leticia Bufoni [BRA]
3. Rachel Reinhard [US]
