View Full Version : Skate Shoes Suck

So what kind of shoes do you guys skate in?
I use my skate shoes as tennis shoes as well.. go on walks with them.
Every pair I've had, The Backs get worn away and it rubs against the back of my foot
Ruining socks and Giving me cuts.
Do any of you use those Gel-Sole things in them?
I'm trying to figure out how to make them last longer..
I doubt there's a shoe that is comfortable and durable at this point.
Shoe-Glue Isn't an option. Like It just wear and tears so easily?
Shoe isn't falling apart just the backs usually.
Trying to think of what shoes I've even used..
Fallens, Audios, DCs, Etnies.. I think that's it
I had a pair of Supras once if they count as skate shoes.

Supras definitely count. Also Adio doesn't exist anymore.
I mean skate shoes are meant to take a lot of shit, you just have to understand what shoes do what.

Vulcanized shoes give you fantastic boardfeel, but you sacrifice protection and the shoes usually die quicker.

Cupsoles are built to last and have hella protection but it's harder to feel out the board. For some people. It's all a matter of preference.

Also it depends on how you skate your shoes. If the backs are wearing out you probably need a half-size bigger or something, unless your talking about the rear sole. Then I really don't know what you mean, the shouldn't happen unless you bomb mad hills and use your heel to break.

I personally flick my tricks with the side of my foot more, so the laces and shit get blown out super fast. It's shitty, and it's hard to correct. All my homies that I film have shoes last anywhere to a week to 3 months. You just have to analyze what your buying and how you skate.

I'm no shoe expert, but in my experience, DC's are awful and did exactly what you said, just wore away at the heel and ruined my socks/ankles. I find personally that Vans last pretty well as far as durability goes and Nike last alright, even though they're more of a slimmer kind of shoe.

I always go for the 'big' puffy type skate shoes, like dvs has, just 'cause I feel they'll last longer. Look a lot better as well.
They all seem to develop the same wear and tear though, it's mainly your approach to how they become destroyed.
I usually get a small hole on the bottom where my big toe is from adjusting my feet too much on my board.

For example,

Seriously can't stand shoes that look like this, from any brand...yuck

If your shoes wear out in the heel area inside the shoe, I warmly recommend these (http://www.servantfootwear.com/sv/shop/footwear/5125.htm) Swedish delicacies. The inside of the shoe including the heel is made by pig skin; it won't wear out.

Skate shoes in general are a fucking lottery. Griptape does mean damage to any shoe, yet I still can't help to think that shoe companies could make super durable shoes if they wanted, but won't because worn out shoes = new shoes = profit. Maybe I'm just pessimistic.

Vans Authentics. They're so light, flexible and thin. It feels like theres almost nothing between me and the board, especially since i always skate in them without socks.
They dont last long at all, but i really like the feel.

Maybe Adio isn't a company anymore but their shoes are still around
I got 2 pairs for pretty cheap at the local shoe store.. I wouldn't recommend them personally.
I don't think I'll be going any bigger in shoe size, I like them to be snug with tight shoelaces.
Starting to just think a thin shoe that grips, is a thin shoe that rips..
My Personal Preference, Skinny shoes are pretty comfy when I ride but they never last.
Now that I think about it I believe my Fallen Troopers lasted longest.
I've never skated in DVS Shoes.
Nike SB's are old man, are they still making new shoes?
I always thought Nike SB Shoes looked sick. They Look Pretty damn Flashy most of them, but durable look to em too.

The es accel had my favorite toe on a skate shoe, but now I've been skating in Nike sb's. I have to say they are the most comfortable shoes I've skated in, although most of their toes run invite narrow than I like, but they last quite well and I really like the blazes Vulcan sole. It feels thick but you can feel your board. Recently I've been skating some es square ones Ive had for a while and put an Nike insole in them, best combo ever.

Emerica. They've got every kind of shoe from thin to puffy, low tops and mid tops and they're all quality. I've got the Reynolds cruisers right now, they're light, pretty durable and comfy. I've told my family and friends about them, they've all been satisfied, even if they don't skate.

I would have agreed with you maybe 5 years ago, but emerica hasn't had a bulky shoe in a while. They've hardly had any cupsoles the past few seasons besides the g-codes and laced/romero. At least until the new reynolds shoe comes out...

Everything about SB is really solid nowadays. Designs, their STACKED team, everything. Fuck, even Jason Hernandez is their filmer. I love him.

Also Vision was the shit. Wish they were still around.

I never really liked Nike, simply because to me it isn't really a skate brand at its core. Don't get me wrong, their skate team is fuckin incredible, but idk... can't stand the brand itself lol I've mostly skated emerica, but I've really liked etnies, fallen, and dvs.

Last pair I bought were Brandon Westgate's "Flick" emerica shoe, and I love the shit out of it. So far my fav shoe I've ever skated.

i just buy skate shoes when they're on sale. i don'T see a point in having the freshest gear just for the sake of being hip. atm i ride some dvs deawon songs, which have cost something like 40,-euro (close to 50 dollars) and even that is too much for a shoe that is build to be torn apart. all i care about is having a good feeling for the board, the rest is cake...

Whenever anyone brings up how Nike isnt a core brand I find it funny because, as a kid, when I started skating there was no such thing as 'skate shoes' ..you had only 3 brands to choose from: Nike, Adidas, and Converse. Imagine that.

And Vision Street Wear IS still around ..in Japan anyway: http://visionstreetwear.com/

I had been riding Fallen shoes for a while and those are relatively durable. But I recently picked up some Emerica Jinx (cheap $50) to try out and I like em; simple, comfortable, and very skate-able.

http://www.tactics.com/a/4kvc/2/emerica-jinx-skate-shoes-black.jpg

Youre really not going to find any skate shoes that are virtually indestructible like they were back in the day..Nowadays its all about board feel and making kids/parents shell out their cash on a more regular basis. Just get something comfortable, affordable, and wont make you feel like shit and break the bank when you rip through em.

Back in the day me and a buddy switched shoes when they ripped. He's goofy and I'm regular and none of us skated switch so we always bought shoes together to make sure both pairs fit, and then when holes started appearing we simply switched shoes, since the back foot shoe was always essentially untouched.

I love skatebrands, but out of all the company's shoes I've skated (DC, DVS, Emerica, Adidas, eś) Nike has been the most comfortable. Even eś, which was my favorite "core", werent super comfortable to skate. I think the blazer is one of the most comfortable vulcanized shoes I've skated, plus they look good. Also, besides their high tech shoes, nikes aren't anymore expensive than any other skate shoe.ive never paid more than 80 bucks on a pair (koston 1s are worth every penny) as oppose to the near 90 dollars it cost me for a pair of accels.

I still wear DC all the time, and have since the brand started, granted I rarely step on a board anymore.
It seems to me that skate shoes lately are more about fashion and less about performance, but I'm judging that on their appearance.
Personally,I don't want any shoe that looks like somebody puked a bag of Skittles on it.

Anyway, shoes are a totally subjective thing..everyone's feet are different and its a matter of taste. No one can tell you whats best for you and the whole brand/status thing should be of least concern; its how a shoe feels on your foot and how YOU feel they look on you that really matters.

I used to be butthurt about Nike. I just understood how sick their team is and how they run shit. SB is almost totally separately run from the normal Nike products. It's very skater-friendly, pretty close to a core brand now. Just like GONZ skates for Adidas and Koston rides for Nike. Shit is for real now. It was different many years ago when they were literally just making Dunks and calling them SB's.
