everytime I've used a shift code I got a golden key for the golden loot chest in Sanctuary
If you're level 20+ You Will more than likely get a purple or higher rarity item.
They are giving out codes for custom skins today at 11am

Make sure you sign-up for shift in-game.
Then use your computer to confirm your account.
exit shift in the game, re-enter.
Get a message saying welcome.. then you should have one golden key.
