A la Williams Spencer.
Right?
What?
What you guys might not realize is that these skating trends/styles are setting the bar even higher.

Do you think skateboarding would be more publicly respected if it was more acrobatic?
Imitating other types of athletes.. Interesting concept.

Publically Interesting? Yes

The masses love to see a showoff and this type of tripe would have them in the stadiums cheering.
I'll be interested in it when the US Women's Gymnastic Team adds skateboards to their floor routines.

So much cool backflip shit going on in skateboarding nowadays. I went to Nitro Circus live on saturday and the one skater they had was doing flip combos that I surprisingly haven't seen landed at XG, whch has much higher standards trick-wise.

It doesn't stop there though. Andy Buckworth (BMX guy) backflipped a bike on the Giganta-Ramp while holding a skateboard. I take it you can all guess what he landed on...

EDIT: It wasn't Andy. It was skater guy whose name I can't recall.

Also, Chris Haffey (world's best inline skater) went down the ramp next to unnamed skater, and threw a board at him mid-air. Of course, unnamed skater landed with the board, but his bike went sudeways and broke a huge-ass speaker.

This is much more acrobatic and risky than just doing a fliptrick down a set.
How could you not be impressed?
Not only are you doing what everyone else does, throwing yourself down a set
You're flipping too?

I'm saying this is becoming a more common way to skate
there's no denying that.. this is the 2nd or 3rd video I've seen of this kind.
Even if no one else did it and it was just a few guys that like doing it this way
Imagine the possibilities?
This could open a whole new world of variations for people that skate this way.

I've always enjoyed watching this kind of stuff over a few clean tricks.
The skateboarding oddities is what it's all about for me.
It is as hard to be creative as it was when skateboarding was starting out.
This kind of stuff is style defining and I think it deserves more attention and respect.

still it's just a niche thing that only a few people are gonna take seriously,i don't really see it being common
there's always been these types of skaters, hasn't changed anything really
guys used to jump from one board to another over barrels and shit too..when's the last time you saw that?

Some of us aren't impressed because it's tricks that we've seen before
at circus shows and such. It just happens to be a skateboard this time
instead of a horse, trampoline, diving board, elephant, fire escape, etc.
I was impressed when I saw Jackie Chan first do things like this, but that
was a few decades ago and the shiny has worn off since then.

This is absolutely not a progressive moment in skateboarding history.
This is simpy a gimmick and just because a few others have done
similar does not make it "common". The "possibilities" for it actually
progressing the artistic style or sport of skateboarding will not come
to fruition until it is done utilizing only the single board he started the
trick with. For the moment he might as well be dressed in rhinestones
and standing around white tigers in Las Vegas because that's the only
fucking place it belongs.

Whatever floats your boat. Creativity is the very heart of skateboarding and
without the people like Rodney Mullen, Natas Kaupas, Ollie Gelfand, Steve
Caballero, Tony Hawk, Daewon Song, Kilian Martin, Alexander Rademaker, etc
we wouldn't have the progression we have seen over the past 40 years and
ongoing. What he did does not define a skateboarding style unless your style is
"Gymnastics" or the "Chinese Opera". It is getting a lot of attention because
people like watching performing monkeys. This is good for skateboarding in
the same way that jumping off a bridge is for Olympic Diving. You are welcome
to give it all the respect you want. I think it's just another jackass sideshow.

That was fun to watch, always cool to see some gnarly goofy shit every now and then! And not to be a total dick.. but..
Skateboarding is the raddest, most impressive, hardest thing imaginable to me. A lot of people don't get it, and I wouldn't ever try to get them interested through adding juggling acrobat manouvers in parks. (not that I would ever dare backflipping off anything onto solids, ever..)
It's like a strange language, and all the different ways people speak it is what keeps me hungry. Every little sketch, tweak, improbable use of terrain.. it's so good. I've never cared for the attention-thirsty approach.. Everyone can see a backflip off of something is a dary stunt. But pretty much any real skateboard trick is better looking to me. If you know, you know. If not, who the fuck cares.

as a general rule of thumb; if you can't do it... dont fucking bash it.... id like to see anyone here try that shit.. otherwise stfu about circus stunts or whatever- its fucking skateboarding; do as you will and where your heart lies... and turn off the middle green button on your controller.
