Haven't had Vegas since 7.0d but look for a render preset that offers h.264 MP and uses mp4 as the format, then make adjustments to the bitrates based on the outcome. Should give you a decent direction in which to start

I dont play with Vegas either but I do know about some option.....
"Disable Resampling"
try that.... as far as uploading to YT, easy
mp4 - H.264 - 3000/10000 mbps (5000/10000 for HD clips is fine)
I use 6000/8000 mbps on everything for YT

why to use mp4/H.264
Its a Highly Compressed Container, meaning it has very low File Size while still maintaining the Quality, this is GREAT
you can use about any Codec with YT (about), you want to use mp4-h.264 because it was made specifically for this type of "Delivery"
but tons of codes work just fine
not sure about PCs and Vegas but with Mac/FCP 7 I Convert my clips to Prores422 (HUGE Data Rate really holds the quality nice until the final Mp4/H.264 Render, I can put Prores422 clips through multiple Programs like AE before I se ANY quality loss.... that wont happen with mp4/h.264 or others like it, as soon as you go through 1 Program your loosing Details)
of course when Im done editing I will Render/Export it to Mp4/H.264, looks good
so OF COURSE you can use most all of them with Youtube.... mov/mp4/mpeg2/avi/wmv/animation/prores422/flv (basically almost all)........ USE WHAT IS COMFORTABLE TO YOU!!!
but "tech" speaking, most everyone would say Mp4/H.264 is what YT likes the most
