Let’s be honest: Skate videos are exercises in living vicariously. They’re not just a source of inspiration but an opportunity to imagine ourselves in the place of those we see on screen. Skate video games carry this fantasy further, affording us the ability to control the skaters whose likenesses they reproduce.
It makes sense that we would use the latter to emulate the former. EA’s defunct Skate series is usually the vehicle for this. It allows replays, and, like other games, it lets you customize your own skater, whom you can obviously model after the pro of your choice.
That means that, yes, remakes of entire video parts, down to boards, clothes, and camera angles, are actually a thing. I’ve never tried this, but I imagine it takes a lot of time and patience. Nonetheless, gamers I can only assume skate have reproduced many an iconic—or just well-liked—section in the name of Internet renown. So I spent an hour or two searching YouTube for the standouts. Here are the 10 best.
