wish i could help. Have you ever heard of creativecow.net?? it's basically got forums for every possible media program imaginable, and if there isn't already a thread about the issue you're having most likely someone will answer your question within 24hours. That's the first place I go whenever I'm having technical difficulties with editing and what not.

I'll save you the time, just go here: http://forums.creativecow.net/sonyvegas

or here: http://forums.creativecow.net/sonyvegasbasics

That "graininess" you're getting is Interlacing.

It's not a simple subject, but it is pretty easy to avoid.

Basically, interlaced video uses two "fields" to make every "frame" of video. Each "field" contains info for every other line of video... so the first field loads and displays... ahhh fuck it I can't be bothered to get into the details. Basically you're not dealing with one "picture" of each frame of video, you're dealing with two parts that load one after the other to create the full picture. The problem is that with very fast motion, or if you're not keeping your frame rate the same all the way through the project, you get those interlacing artifacts. You can "see" the interlacing. This is shitty.

Here's what to do.

Choose a frame rate for you project and stick to it. 29.97fps is NTSC standard, but sticking with 30fps is fine. You capture your footage so you'll have to change the capture frame rate if you can. Basically you need the raw footage to be at 30fps. Then set up your project in Vegas at 30fps AND make sure you choose Progressive video, not Top Field First or Bottom Field First. This will make Vegas output a complete frame, rather than two fields to create the frame.

Confused? This shit can make your head spin....

Let me know if that makes sense or works for you... I really like your videos so I'd love to see you getting some really good shit out of Vegas.
