The volume of your voice is fine in the clips, but the tone is a bit too high.
You're running jazz inflected break beats with closer to spoken word rap over top of it.
You need a bit of a deeper tone to your voice and a touch of spacing in some of the phrasing.
"Some say the world will end in fire.... (cont) and would suffice." That entire phrase is offbeat, rushed, and almost mumbled.
No idea how serious you are about this, but it's my 2 cents.

You could afford to use a few more words inbetween rhymes and say a lot more to enrich the overall lyrical quality of your tracks. Being an MC is about having something to say, or at least, it should be.

To put it into relative terms: You're going all Haslam on this shit. We need you a bit more Hosoi. Haslam's tech abilities are freaky-good, but you could use some more flowey and showey style ala Hosoi.

Here's the latestDefinitely not bad. I think from :55-the end you did well. Right at :55 you twisted a bit for like 1s-2s, but then got on track and it flowed pretty good.
The earlier parts weren't bad, but with such a smooth jazz beat it felt a bit off with all the breaks.
Keeping the flow going with the beat to me should be paramount. You may also consider tuning songs up octave slightly so they harmonize a bit more with your voice since it's a little high.
Solid improvement though.

Thought I'd bring out a rapper to you guys that you might not know, but I think shares a style that both of you can identify with. I've listened to MC Celtic for about 4ish years now after someone sent me to his myspace in WoW. The dude is out of Florida and has a nice style, flow for days, and great beats. He usually releases his albums on his myspace/website for 2-4 weeks completely free and then puts them on itunes and such to sell.

Thanks Rep! Back when I fronted a band I was allowed a minute between every song for the random nonsense I'd just come up with. I swear that's how we booked shows. "You're the punk band with the funny guy who raps, right?!" It's an odd complement when you hear more about your humor than music, but fuck, at least people are listening!!!

Speaking of, I'm listening to MC Celtic right now, and I dig. I have to admit, that's almost exactly what I wish my voice sounded like. I have this whole nasily nerd thing going on... Which... Seeing as I'm a total geek works.... But, sometimes I wanna be one of the cool MC's.

And Antwan, you nailed a couple things. Less words means more flow, and you're coming along QUICK. Getting good at this shit is a tough process, 'cause you have to be willing to focus a LOT more on your shortcomings than what you do well so you can improve. Chef Gordon Ramsey was a good teacher for me in this regard. The only feedback he wants is negative, 'cause that's what he needs to work on. I still think praise where it's due, though. One of these days, we should collab a track about fakeskating or something.

Also, if you ever need instrumentals, I have a pretty deep collection. Loves me the bittorrent marketplace.

Face it, man. Battle raps are nothing more than a pissing match between a couple of dudes going "it's this big." If nothing else, the box was exited, and we all had a giggle.

Gotta admit, something to be said about lyrical cohesion. Your flow is improving big time, but soon the time will come to pick better topics to speak on than how great you are or how great the other guy isn't.

Saunders, I like the sound of your voice and the flow is very nice. Lyrics I'm not feelings yet, but I don't think you're trying for solid content yet.
The overlay track though needs to be backed down a bit. It's overpowering your voice by leaps and bounds.

A tip I find helpful for Saunders: I just recently turned the low end EQ on my mixer up for recording. I have an oddly nasily voice, but I find if I bring a little more of the bass out of it, it has less of a tendancy to drown out with the bass in the beat. I'm not an expert or anything, but you've got a voice that could probably use the same tweak to suit the beats better. I don't think you're too drown out, per say, but it is tough to make out any of the lyrics, and I'm sure Rep just pointed out the cause.

Day three sounds good, man.

Seems the hardest thing for an MC to do is meet a damn producer/engineer. I've had some stuff written that I've wanted to bring on to the stage for going on three years now, but lacked the second half of the act. Now, I know a cat, and we're finally making some headway, but it's been a long road. On the plus side, my abilities have gone from a drip to a dribble and are moving towards being a real flow, so the practice is definatly worth the patience... But MAN it sucks knowing you want to, and can do something, but need a second set of braincells to make it work.

If your area is anything like mine, don't bother with Craigslist. You'll find a bunch of dudes who want to sell you their beats, which is cool if you have the fundage to do that, but isn't the kind of work I wanted to do.

Best place to meet the like minded is really college. Dunno if you're that age (you seem to be in the later teenage years, who knows) but if you ask around at a local community college your pretty likely to find someone else who's bored and got some passion.

I was young Simba. on stage No Lie. Princess of Wales Theatre. Downtown Toronto almost a decade ago, ever since then I've always wanted to get back on stage with my own material and do my own thing. That was an experience. A lot of inspiration and motivation came out of the hustle to get that job in particular, which created a lot of opportunities.

not being able to do what I love has been getting under my skin. that's why I succumbed to youtube. Matter of time before I did it anyways, so useful.

I don't know as much about US rap as much as UK Rap/Grime, but Saunders, I like the tone in your voice man, it's got that kinda old school sound slightly. Can't put my finger on who it reminds me of. The lyrics don't mean anything to me, but maybe its cause I'm English.

But I'm no pro. I haven't even been involved in anything like this, I wrote a couple grime bars a couple years back, never even spit them outside my room though.

And for whoever mentioned dissing or something. UK Grime. Lord of the Mics and genral sends (dubs) for other atrists are the best disses around imo. And grime sets and freestyles are shit hot.

My real advice to you, Antwan, is quit freestylin' and write some stuff down. Once you have it written, practice it until you've got a flow going. Once you have the flow, record it, and be a dick to yourself about any and all issues you hear in the recording, and re-record.

I know I stumbled on my shit here and there in these tracks I've done here, but none of them are a finished product. At best, you've heard my scratch tracks which I'm still working on but are either solid enough to share, or I just did for shits and giggles in the first place.

Roll with the positives, man. You've shown steady improvement, and you know a few cats who know a few things. I'm still trying to figure out the gap between Saunders and myself. Kids got a craaaazy style that I don't, and while I'm not going to be going the same way he is, I know there's something there I can learn. So far, it's that a lot of people bite more on the vocal than the lyrics, but he's got some stagger to his progresisons that are pretty interesting.

Don't lose yourself, but add on what you're getting from other pepole. As much as it stings, those little bites will teach you a lot when someone comes at you with them.

A) Antwan, my brother, all I'm going to add is take a page from the Gordon Ramsay playbook. The guy doesn't want any positive feedback, he only wants to hear the negative. The bad shit is what you need to improve, so why focus on what you're already doing well unless you can use it to improve a shortcoming? I don't buy that you're not out to improve as you work, as I see you improving. Even if someone seems like a dick when they're giving you negative feedback, just sift the reality out of it, and let the stuff that doesn't matter sluff off. I know it's all done and over with, but man, I think you're a good dude, and you deserve to get decent.

B) As I don't see any of "thadeuce's" posts, I'm assuming the problem got solved, and I guess we all owe Mamba a thanks for that. But, Duce, don't feed the troll, bro. You seem like a wicked smart dude, and I'm sure you're heated, but I'm also sure you know that launching incindiary comments back at a dude will only fuel the fire. I'm not participating in this shit to see who's better than who, but 'cause I have fun doing this shit and it's even better to be able to share that. In the meantime, I just got a DOPE instrumental from my producer, and I'm getting fucked hard by the writer's block. The track is a somewhat slow guitar laiden thing, but it hits hard. Has one of those vibes that just kinda makes you get a smirk and bob your head like everything is cool, and I'll be damned if I can come up with an overall concept to complement it. Anyone have any ideas to share with a guy?!

Also, to all that have checked out my page, BIG THANKS. That's all total infancy stuff, but it's still mine. Everything you hear will be redone to some extent very soon as I'm working on getting 10-15 tracks down to have as a live setlist, and probably record 5 of them DIY style to put out an EP. If/when that happens, it'll be free, so if you're going to want a copy, like that page! Details will be posted there. In the meantime, I'm working with a friend who's an audio engineer and might just redo the vocals on a few tracks without mastering them fully just to give out to anyone who'd actually want them. do your own thing.Keep doing your own thing. I've been supportive in trying to help you progress since early on. I just find the mentality to stay the same to simply be offputting and nonsensical. You don't have to answer to me or anyone else, but when you put your contribution on a public forum you are obviously wanting attention from the population at large. You simply have to be able to deal with input whether socially brought upon you politely or not in a better way.

You rap and skate in very unique ways that are not going to be accepted 100% by the general public. You have to deal with that and learn to read into peoples opinions and tips if you actually want to progress. If you're simply putting videos out there with no interest in feedback except for what is buttering your toast, then you're setting yourself up to be another Star Wars kid.

From what I could hear, it sounds like you can write rhymes but not rap. It's lacking energy and character in the way you deliver the words. Don't be afraid to find your voice and rock out a bit, loosen up a little. You do get bonus points for the madlib beat.

The very low whisper voice rap thing can work, but you need to have a mic so you can get a decent recording with minimal background noise.

1: Try n ensure your beats fit together, you seem like you're trying to fit too much in sometimes which kills the flow and

That was the first one that I listened all the way through Antwan. There's some definite improvement.

That said, I think Chizzy just deaded this thread. On some of that based/swag (especially the vid! lol) and OFWGKTA (more the lyrics/delivery and beat) vibe. I am too much of an old hip hop dude to be really in touch with that whole scene, but this is better than a lot of the stuff I've heard. Better than Based God actually. lol You need beats??

Here it is Antwan - rap is about cadence, and timing, and groove. Some people have it, some don't. You cannot rap man. You're falling off beat, cramming in too many syllables, etc. My constructive criticism is to stop. But I will take your advice and just stop listening all together.

it's not that you're born with the ability to rap, but the ability to groove to a beat, and it's really hard to write with a good flow, much less freestyle, if you were brought up snapping on beats one and three. rhythm is just something that happens naturally.

You being out of sync has nothing to do with editing or anything production wise. Rhythm is a skill, like any skill some naturally have more than others, but you can work at it to improve. You have plenty of creativity, but what you are lacking in the flow/rhythm department is going to hold you back. Practice makes perfect, you are improving, far from good or great, but if you're having fun who cares, and if you improve along the way thats a bonus.

This isn't about "falling in line with the masses" or people against your "world view" at all, its about how you accept feedback and whats going on in your head...
