These were all taken with my Nikon D40 and two Vivitar 285hv flashes today. I got one flash for Christmas and then bought another one, so I've got a pretty decent set up so far.

My favorites are the hardflip and the last one.

God damn those are dope. The lightning's just perfect - thinking about getting a flash myself. I want a... what do you say 'off-camera' one.

I use a Nikon D40. It's a great camera especially if you're just starting out, and the lens it comes with isn't too bad either. The camera with the lens usually goes for around $500, but you can get it for $415 on Amazon at the moment and this site www.ecost.com you can get a refurbished one for like $370 last time I checked. The flashes are two off camera flashes that can also go on camera, they're Vivitar 285hv's. Great flashes, and only like $85 each (compared to $250 for Nikon flashes). Then I got these wireless receivers for the flashes and a transmitter for the camera, so you can put the flashes anywhere and shoot wirelessly. It makes some really nice pics. Just took a few more yesterday...

Wonderful, thanks man.

Getting a job soon, first buying an iMac, then buying a camera, probably this one.

Some nice shots there. The flash is a little powerful for my tastes maybe look at getting a difuser or something. Just one other thing I'd recommend using rear curtain sync to get a bit more movement into your shots (http://flickr.com/photos/cherryrig/1419210738/) . I think the Nikon should be able to do it via the flash settings, least my old 35mm could.

Oh and I could resist 'shopping this pic, I find hardflip legs funny. Hope you don't mind :)

Ha ha, nice one. That picture of the movement... looks like I could just get a similar effect with a low shutter speed? I'll look into it, thanks.

EDIT: Wait a second, is that you're flickr? I've seen those pictures before ha ha. If it is, nice work! I love the huge rock and roll.

No that's not my work, I was looking for an example of rear curtain sync. You could do a similar thing with a slow shutter speed but if you use rear curtain the flash fires just before the shutter closes so you get two exposures on one image, one from the shutter and one from the burst of flash.

Anywhoo, I'll get back to my darkroom before I bore you all senseless.

Edit: Adopted, I've been drinking whiskey in a ditch

hello btw, my first post on fluckit, one love!

nice pictures dudes. i love to edit, but i really enjoi pictures more than anything else, ill get into shooting more to the summer.

anyway, i see you got some nice flashes, ill pick soem up too soon, money money money... but i do got a nikor fisheye, i felt that was more important than flashes to start with, lol

check my first testshoot at my local skatepark with my homies, no flashes, sorry, but still ok i guess.

I'd have to disagree and say lighting is definitely more important, but getting a fisheye was definitely a great idea, and probably more expensive then a flash set up. So at least you got it out of the way, I still need to get one of those. The only lenses I have are the Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 and a Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6.

If I were to buy one of these cameras, how would I go about transferring the files to my PC?

Nelson

I'm sue you can buy the camera at Amazon.com & transferring files would be through a memory card or direct camera to computer set up. I'm not sure though

Corrine

Yeah, USB or via a card reader should suffice. Though it's probably best to stick photos to an external hard drive if it's important stuff.

Yep, I just hook my camera up to my PC with a USB cable, but a card reader is always an option.
