Pretty good stuff. Should be able to run.. lets say BF3, on quite high settings fluently.

Cool so you'll be able to play all the new games until about summer!!!

Hahahaha computer hardware is a crazy game to get into... that's why I don't play games on my laptop. I would want to upgrade like every 6 months.

I'm joking really. That setup ought to do you right for a long ass time. Good $$$ too.

Seanne1986 Yeah, I can't compete. Though that's a pretty good setup though. You overclock any of it?

Roc, I could never maintain any of my laptops. Though it seems that one has some decent specs.

Ayreon, You have any other planned uses for your beast? (Sorry if this turns into a thread jacking)

6GB DDR2 RAM
AMD Athlon II X2 3.0GHz
GIGABYTE GA-MA785GM-US2H
Hitachi 500GB HDD

Nothing spectacular by any means, but I can run editing software pretty well, along with most games on medium high settings

haven't had a single problem with this 'top, other than the internal HDD being fried by US/Canada Customs X-ray scans. Back and forth to school... 4-8 x-rays per month. Kerplowy.

You got a solid PC being built there and yes it is pretty futureproof for a bit depending on your gaming tastes. I still personally refuse to add a SSD drive to my stuff. The price still isn't worth it to me. Couple years it'll be fine.

I've overclocked my gfx card a little. GPU from 810 - 910 MHz, and memory from 1250 - 1330 MHz.
I can overclock more without getting any artifacts. But I seriously don't see any difference in performance when I overclock more than that.

Tbh.. I don't even see a difference between my settings and the standard settings.

The way I boost my performance is 2 softwares called Game Booster and Vista Services Optimizer to shut down unnecessary programs. I've experienced 15-20 fps increase after using both them programs.
My gfx card is far from the best there is also.. But if my motherboard was capable of crossfire, then 2x 6950 would be awesome.

I have become a fan of Asetek Coolers myself, but they are not available mass market.
Had a customer wanting a new cooler/cpu installed on a Cyberpower PC so I took their cooler as part of the deal.

You can however get the same coolers through a partnership with Antec.
These are what I install on peoples machines now pretty exclusively.
The Antec Kuhler H2O 620 (or 920) Liquid Cooling Systems are pretty solid and not big money.
The 620 is like $70 and the 920 is like $90 and they give solid work whether OC'ing or standard usage.

i looked into it more and the mobu is actually a 16 gb max ram but im fine with that; im also getting a corsaird 60x hydro cooler for the phenom and a 48 gb solid state drive to run win7 64 bit on plus my virtual ISOs from daemon blu ray; gonna drive the price with this plus the fans up to about 1 clam; but i can deal with that.

I might replace my processor later at some point. But since I run bf3 on almost full ultra with no AA on, I guess I'm fine with it so far.
Only drop rate I get is when I use a sniper with the scope over long distances (but that's on all settings, haven't tried low though lol). Then I get around 30 fps instead of 50+ fps which is quite enough tbh.. feels like 60.

Currently use these settings and it runs fluently, except the long distance scope fps drop that I mentioned earlier.

Could ofc could use 1680x1080 resolution, but I get a little fps drop then also. This is just fine, and I'll bet yours will run just as fine as well if not better.

Drop Decoration and Terrain Quality to Medium or so and your scope issue should resolve.
This is happening to a lot of people due to the rendering load the scope causes.

I ordered my Phenom II procesor yesterday and I get a fat bonus check this friday and plan on getting the Asus Sabertooth 990FXZ motherboard instead of the MSI one.. i been reading nothing but good stuff on this thing and looking at the benchmarks, and for 200 bucks and a 5 year warranty its gonna have endless upgrade ability in the future... SLI and Crossfire ready plus AM3+ to use the new bulldozer procs when they actually get them working right lol.

this thing is a monster for the price- and ran head to head with the Crosshair V on the benches.

Okay, first of all, I don't know much about hardware, but I thought you guys could help me with this.

First of all, I wont even post how much it costs because, A) these are used parts, and B) Local currency changes everyday so the only one who knows whats cheap and not will be me.

The things I'd like to get are these:

i5 2500K
ASUS p8p67m (Not the PRO edition)
2x4gb 1600c9 snipper

Is that setup good??^^^

Does that motherboard works well with the i5, anyone here has this config?

Thats all for the moment.
Help an hermano out.

it looks good man ; but it really depends on what you plan on doing with it. do you plan on playing some high end graphic games or video editing or both? that is a good basis for the system but i guess what it really boils down to is the card you plan on using. im getting the MSI twin frozrIII gtx 560 ti OC 1280mb card for mine. but i also have 16 gb corsair vengeance RAM upgradeable to 32 gb on the sabertooth mobo. im not a fan of Intel - never have been because you are really paying for the name not the service. and i can easily overclock any amd3/+ to 4 GHz at half the price with better performance.
you can do alot with a 1gb video card anyway- its just the stream processors and bit graphs to take into consideration. for 100 to 150 you can get 192 streams or for 100 bucks more or so you can get 488 for some serious fps!

a 4ghz Oc amd is not the same as a intel 4ghz Oc.
it use to be this for AMD> "you want the best, you pay the money. it really is that simple :)"
not anymore... Amd Flagship FX-8150 8 Core (not real Cores like intel) bulldozer got beat hands down by Intel i5 2500-k Quad core (2 Real cores)
but that is just some benchmarks... intel lost in some others.. like encode,3D ect.. not by much.. was neck and neck. but erm this is a i5? not a i7 that is intel flagship lol. as that just walks all over AMD.
now.. price vs bang? 8core AMD vs intel 4 core i5? well i5 wins.
cheaper.. less power. better OC ect.
i am not a intel fan. i like amd as my first 3 builds was all amd. but you have to go with whats best, and is only a lil bit more.

as for what monk said, its true.. what will you use a computer for? 99% of the time it's idle as in it will just be used for internet and the likes.
so why waste all the money on a system you only use for daily use? something a laptop can do just as good.

if you want it for a games system then yea, i5 2500-k with 4GB. a 60+GB SSD + Gfx card. = the best game system you can get with a nice OC on them i5 @ 4.8- 5Ghz. you can render a 1080p clip in H.264 5 mins in about idk 4-6 mins..
Raw power :)

then you have Amd.. just as good. the 955-65 ect Blacks are still better at alot of fuctions than the new bulldozer. it's just he bulldozer is new.. (and a Flop)

Daily use, lil encodes here and there + games ect..
Amd will do.

for just pure power and encodes of multithread apps (there ain't that many) video/games w/e then i5 will do..

only people like me who are kinda stupid by i7 series lol.. (we don't want anything less.)

agusbmxarg:
Suggestion

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155
Asus P8Z68-M PRO Intel Z68
G.Skill RipJawsX 8GB (2x4GB)

or

AMD Bulldozer FX-8 Eight Core 8150 Black Edition 3.60Ghz
Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 AMD 990X
Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz

Gfx card would be up to you.... Nvidia 560 UP or ATI 6900 UP.

Have a ice cream..

only reason i got a 955 BE was the 990fx sabertooth needs to have an am3 proc to flash the bios to be able to install the bulldozer chips for some reason. and like he said they are kind of a flop right now; this 955 will hold me until the second gen 8 cores come out sometime next year and will be ready for them by then financially, because once i get the video card thats gonna be about 1100 bucks for my rig bareboned with just necessities for it to run. but compared to buying a 3000 dollar alienware i think its the better investment down the road for the cash.
