Recently ive been trying to polish up my filming because i can clearly see that my filming is straight up sloppy, Any suggestions on how much zoom as in mm,
As of late ive been filming for a new video, and basically its a kind of skating like Permy, Demz, and some pawn in there, and ive been trying some 10mm footage, I like it but some times it gets too distorted i guess, So please hit me up and let me know what u recommend,

Its really based on the feel your going for or your own STYLE I usually use between 18-20 for lines when going for a realistic style filming but TBH i've really been enjoying the 10mm wicked hoverboard type filming simply because its somethin different and makes it fun now that the ghosting's gone u can really play with the angles and make the distortion work for something more entertaining.......... The best thing you can do is find something you like and the feel you want and just go with it trust yourself i mean your vid is your vision right so play with em all and do what you wanna do

i dont understand why people only film the board and ankles while in 200 but w.e..
i take 200 and physically move back so the depth of field is there...
skelli 10 is unwatchable...
perm 10 is getting there...
knex 10 is perfect...
my 10 is sloppy but semi controlled-ish...
bullet 200 is too close sometimes...
stevland 200 is perfect...
my 200 is kinda shitty...
anchors 200 wins though...

i go 15 for lines
between 130-215 for ll depending on the trick

I don't go with a set mm for close or long. I know it's not exactly the most helpful bit of info but it's true. Depending on the trick and angle I just play with the mm and the cam distance until I find something I think looks good.
i experiment with a bunch of stuff, my lines are usually about 15mm, singe tricks are either 15mm or 200mm, and if i'm skating in a bowl or miniramp i usually do a bunch of zooming stuff.
fishy: 12-14
normal 35-50
wide: 150-250
i just take what looks best imo

long: between 75 and 130ish. i rarely go higher.
i never use anything inbetween.
lines= 15-16. I try to get as close and low as possible while keeping the whole guy in frame. A lot of times, when the line starts with a gap or handrail or something I start at the bottom or middle of the stairs with my camera zoomed in to about 100 and then zoom out to 15 for when he lands, only cause I don't like doing the owl cam thing over stairs/gaps. I don't mind it when other people do it, but I just don't like doing it myself. I do the same thing in reverse when the line ends with a gap/rail
long= 230-500 I used to try and do what demz did and move the camera around to keep my guy always in frame and have depth and all that, but lately i haven't been trying that as much, and kinda like it when you just see from the knees down. I have always felt that long lens has been my biggest weakness and still haven't really figured out any formula that I'm 100% happy with.
I do agree with Demz that Anchors wins when it comes to long lens. I still don't know how he makes everything look so good.

a healthy dose of 10 mm, low, obviously, if it's a really good trick I'll get the cams in a semi straight line and put the skater right dead in the center so I have the whole trick in frame and then I'll go back marker by marker and tweak the pan without physically moving the position of the filmer, until the hands, feet, legs, and board fill the corners of the screen, especially on filthy landings.
I've also been filming in 13 mm recently, less distortion than 10 but almost all the same benefits.
180 for stationary cams with full depth of field, and about 110 for moving long lens cams, with the occasional 300 mm cam when I get bored, but 300 can be really finicky.
Occasionally I use a "zoom drop cam" ( I have no idea what to call this because I don't film in real life) Usually a Zoom Out, I usually move the camera from a birds eye view straight to the ground starting with maybe 180 mm all the way 10 mm on the landing.

I think I film in the highest mm out of anyone here lol....18 for me. perm already scolded me for it.
Really depends on where I'm skating and what tricks I'm trying to capture...
i like the way 75mm looks.still learning with the lower lenses.i used to always try to film realistic but lately it's
been more fun trying all different angles,anywhere from low to astronaut,and the hoverboard's been gettin a workout.

usally between 14-12, and for long lenses around the 180's & 190's

i probably film more 35-50mm than anything else....
10 or 250+ mm lenses are only for adding variety to my video parts.

never below 24 then up to 500,i love my 500.
10mm hurts my fuckin head,it's way too much distorted.real life century death lens have barrel but not that stretch from center thing when you go below 20 in the game.
