Wood shop normally doesnt have glue or a press or very thin wood.

my tips: cut out a normally sized piece with the jigsaw in the shape of a fish almost. Like an old school noard just a cruiser. Bring trucks into class to make sure theyll fit. drill holes accordingly to size and shape

I wouldn't try to make a skateboard with concave and stuff.

Go for a longboard, you can make a good looking product without concave and what not. Plus, you can be really creative with the initial shape and everything. The hardest thing to do is get the trucks centered, so try to make the shape of the board easy to pinpoint the center. With Longboards you can stain them and stuff as well, which I'm sure he'll be looking for during his grading.

Check out http://www.longboardlarry.net for some ideas, he makes homemade longboards and has a TON of shapes and stuff.
