    Default Skate Series Concept Art

    I was looking through old book marks on my PC at work and found a link to a Blog by Tom Johnson who worked on the Ea Skate series, providing concept art. Not sure if anyone has posted these before, I did a quick search but couldn't find them.

    Thought I would post the pics I found on it. Some are really cool IMO. It cool to see some areas how the artist originally envisioned them to look.

    wow the concept artist was a GENIUS!

    it's like they didn't pay any attention to his designs at all.

    we were so close to having AWESOMENESS!

    "dude... you're sketches look good, but they look too detailed. we are just gonna copy/paste a bunch of giant stairs and rails."

    *ALSO*
    i really wish they would have made PC one giant level instead of 3 individual ones. it seamed in SV and NSV, the best spots were often where different areas merged.

    So I've been thinking, is it possible that some these spots may somehow be hidden in the disc code? I was wondering if it was possible to bring it out with a hack? Lol I sound so naive.


    And it might just be me but it seems the spot in that vid was never put into the full game

    EA are idiots for not letting this stuff in, lets hope the reason they fired everyone is so they can hire the C.A.P makers from skate 3 and let them work on Skate 4. Let's hope.

    Such a nice find, deacon

    worst part about these is the fact they have individual ambiances to them, where the designs that made the final game don't carry much of a difference to one another. Like OG, each of the the sections captured you in a unique way, where as in skate three, certain spots could be put somewhere else and only need a different style of rail to make it fit.

    Edit Went looking at the blog deacon found, and i find this quote a little troubling
    "I had about 10 days max to design each lot, it was a lot of quick sketches and on the fly meetings with producers & designers. Many of the lots in Skate 3 had specific modeling schedules, a modeler may have seven days or less to model gameplay for each lot. If the design was too elaborate it could get cut and if not elaborate enough would be a boring location so was a tight target to hit each time."

    World Layout 1c image would've been one heck of a city. These are so cool and now it's disappointing they didn't keep the city as one.

    Why does everyone keep talking about Skate 4
    If the whole blackbox team disbanded it seems unlikely they would get back together
    that means it would be a completely different team of artists and whatnot.
    Even then I won't believe anything about it until it's on IGN or some kind of actual gaming website.
    If skate did make a reentry, why wouldn't they hype that shit? I think they would..
    It would be on all kinds of official websites. The way that Skate 3 was Vibing off of the Community From the start, had a website that still does work a bit (from what I've heard) It seems unlikely they would tell us about something as tragic as EA not supporting skate anymore, just to bring it back to life.

    Never seen these before, some of the areas look so good. Tempted to try and make one or two parts of them in CAP or in a game engine.

    I love the spots. That planter down the stairs in pic 9 looks sweet.

    Overall though, I think the general aesthetic of city looks too futuristic. I don't really look how Port Carverton looks anyway.

    Unfortunately, that's how the games industry works a lot of the time. People who have no concept of how long good work takes get to dictate how long you have to do it in order to meet marketing deadlines.

    Hey I stumbled across this thread and was very touched thanks for posting those...I have boxes of art like that from all three games.

    those are my drawings and designed for all three skate games with another concept artist Shaun Hayes Holgate we divided up the lots to design. He had a lot of
    great concepts.. all three were a lot of fun to work on. Lots of those early concepts were too complicated to be fully flushed out in the time frame.
    game testing takes time in the design phase so keeping it simple is going to be more fun as well for players. In early concept phase you aim high and know
    you may only get a small thing in sketch, but some of the ideas we had for skate one made it into the later versions. All projects have to have deadlines, with tech and art coming together
    adds another layer of complexity that eats a big chunk out of deadlines. But overall....the games are a lot of fun..so think it worked out. Thanks for looking at the drawings we did a lot of
    brainstorming sketches with markers and pens later got more digital, drawing on paper is still great. from Tom

    thats awesome, I remember when I was browsing through the eye of art website I found a masterpiece work by M F Hussain who is the world-famous Indian Painter and has produced number of masterpieces.
