Saint's Row 4

It saddens me to see saint's row go in this direction, I absolutely adored one and two. The 'ridiculous' attribute to the game now is just a downward spiral to the series entirely. I thought their intent was to compete with grand theft auto, but that's obviously not the case, at least anymore. What do you guys think about this?

I really liked SR3 myself, but I feel it doesn't even compare to SR2 still. SR2 had the best balance of goofyness with enough to take it seriously, and it was the only one to compete with GTA with me. It had SO much to do, and they took most of it out in SR3, shrunk the map, made it less interesting, and made every character unlikeable.

Luft is pretty correct, I liked 1 and 2 a lot, I even liked SR2 more than GTA at the time, it felt more free and alive to me, there were more opportunities for goofy yet realistic fun. I got SR3 played it for about an hour, upgraded my weapons to a bunch of retarded shit that fired octopusses and crap like that and the game was just ruined, you couldn't even downgrade the weapons back to normal so I just gave up on it, haven't played it since.

Viola Dewynter was alright, but I was referring to the pre-existing characters. They made Shaundi a total bitch when she was really fucking cool in the first game, they made pierce just more awkward and cocky, etc. etc.

it was ridiculous but I enjoyed it.
Funny at times. The gameplay was pretty fun too. Near the end I did feel it was played out. Beat the game and probably wont play it again.
It was on sale on steam for 10 bucks. I'd probably get this when it goes on sale again
these games are coming out to fast too. And they're just pumping it with a bunch of shit to claim you can do all these mini games and what not.
Play SR2 now. It has WAY better customization, a way more followable story, funnier side missions, really everything about it is better.

It easily could have if they stuck with how the first two games were made, luft summed it up perfectly. If you recall before the first saints row came out, it was all about competing against grand theft auto, since it was new and the same type of game. They were finding their own methods to make it stand out against grand theft auto without seeming like the exact same thing, but now it's resulted in the fucking trailer trash of a game you see above.

haha I don't know about someone being shot...being stupid enough to entertain such a thing does the trick. This edition of SR IV make the Grid 2 Mono Edition look like a bargain.
You guys don't understand business, do you? This million dollar pack is valued at approx. 650,000 if smartly purchased, and Deep Silver would make great profit if someone were to buy it. But HERE'S THE CATCH. They don't EXPECT anyone to buy it, they aren't that stupid. They likely haven't paid for ANY of this stuff. If anyone decides to actually buy the pack, they can easily just pay for the stuff right then and there and take the profit. If they don't, who cares? They've already done their job, and that is MARKETING. You know how many sites and discussions this pack has popped up on/in? That's their job, they did it well.

Well, I obviously wasn't thinking about this when I made the post and linked the story. I admit, marketing...business...it's not my forte. I know some things here and there related to it, but I'm no expert on it.
I just saw the story, and thought it was relevant to the discussion. I wasn't thinking about how many other forums have discussed this very thing on the Internet and I CERTAINLY wasn't thinking about how much it would cost if purchased under better circumstamces. On the other hand, I don't think anyone would purchase this anyway. The only person who would buy this would be part of the 1% who (more than likely) is slightly out of touch with reality. And if someone did buy this, someone might run a story on who bought it, just like these two stories. I haven't heard a single thing since they broke, and I'm not holding my breath about them going any further.
I totally agree with everything you said, Luft. I'm just being honest that I wasn't thinking about these things when I made the post.

saints row all I know is about gang warfare! Saints Row 1 is better than GTA 4 and will remain the best saints row I've played. It got boring when the introduced the superhuman type characters!
Still enjoy the mayhem challenges tho but if you want to have superhuman abilities then play super hero games or prototype as saint row will end up like it anyway!

The reason these games keep getting so ridiculous is because you're still in the coma at the end of SR1, dreaming up all these characters that never existed, except gat, and in your mind, you can talk, and have superpowers, and be the president, etc.

That very well could be the plot to whatever the 5th game is going to be called. I was watching angry joe's review on Saints Row 4 and he said it was pretty fun, even for how wacky it is and he read somewhere that the 4th is going to be the last of the, forgive me for using this word, ridiculousness. Next gen Saints Row might just be pretty good.
Here is a quote from the design director.
"We're definitely considering Saints Row IV sort of the end of that saga of this character and the Saints as they are. So if there's any more future Saints Rows - which you know we always hope there will be, we hope there's fans for future games like that - they will probably continue in a different direction."
