Default My "portrait" art show pieces

Beings that this game totally motivated me to express myself artistically:

My brother has this space available to him. He has art shows there. It's nothing special, small, no heat. He has been wanting me to do a show for a while and asked me what type I would want to do. He wanted to have me create GC's live (he was one of few in the outside world that I shared them with) the GC is gone... I tried GTA I loved it actually but it is unreliable.
Anyway I said "portraits" I really really loved doing portraits in the old GC. I would of never have the confidence to do art now. So here they are:

    My first piece:
    Charles Michael Kittridge Thompson IV
    colored pencil, 9"12"

    http://fav.me/d72h6fi

    My second piece:
    "Pondering"
Brown and white colored pencil on black paper

    My third piece:
    "Lance"
Black oil on 11"x17" drawing paper

    4th
    "Andy Rooney"
    Oil on 11"x17" canvas

    5th
    "Philip Seymour Hoffman
    Oil dry brush

    6th
    "Selfie"
    Oil dry brush

    7th
    "Chris Haslam"
    Silver pencil on black paper

    8th
    "Clay"
    Oil

This was my GC's from the weeeeek but RELIABLE s2

    Looks good.
You should do shows man! Just gotta keep calm and know that it's your work.
With something you envision you'll never agree with the feedback 100%, Obviously stay nice about it, your expression makes you happy right?
I believe that artists in every form: art, music, dance, video, etc. are always game changers and even if everyone hates what you're doing, no one else is going to do it like you. We're all different, We all bring something different. Use that, Keep going and great things should follow.

Yeah, that Frank Black one is the epitome of photorealism. I ha to breathe slowly to soak it in.

The 2nd piece is sick too. Appropriately named, It brought a feeling of futile over thinking. A multitude of thoughts without value.

I've always enjoyed the projects you post here, but these are extraordinary!

    Oh man so do I
All those GC's I did are the ones is like to do now. The friendo, the kid smoking the cig, taxi driver, clockwork orange. I'd like to come up with some original shit. Like take the pic myself. I got a decent cam now. A Cannon t3i I just need to dial in how to use it. One of my buddies is really talented, he's done some work for Thrasher and he's stoked to help me. But I had limited time and I wanted to do pieces I thought would interest the masses (much like my GC choices)
I've been tossing around doing homeless portraits. I just think it's a cool idea and I think you can find beauty in just about everyone. Not sure anyone would want that shit on their wall or not, but it would be really interesting. I think if I get the cam thing down I could get good pics of them. It would be cool getting their story also.

Thanks dude, these are done with a dry brush technique. The red rag is a paper towel. Basically you get paint on the brush then dab it all off. Then you slowly add layers and layers of color down til you get the shading you like. It's almost like airbrushing. It is just the easiest way (and most enjoyable to me) to get the look I'm going for.
Very similar to how I did GC's I just build and build layers of shapes.
I have never had any professional training. The GC's were the first art shit I did since high school so I just kind of wing it. I ain't kidding when I say I wouldn't probable do this shit if it wasn't for SKATE

Edit: thanks doc, your always my fav critic

Did any of you share this?

This is the only place I shared this version of this pic and it showed up in my Facebook feed shared by Chris Haslam himself. I know it had to come from here because all other versions of this pic were cropped. Pretty freaking cool scrolling down my Facebook feed this morning and coming across this pic I drew shared by the dude I drew and liked by almost 2000 people.

    https://www.facebook.com/chrishaslamofficial?fref=photo

On further investigation..... the last post he shared was of his EA Skate deck. Maybe Chris was here searching his name with our search feature. Its a stretch but interesting.

There's so much life in your portraits--like theyre about to start moving..amazing stuff.
My favorites are Lance Mountain and "the Clay."
Seems you've got a real knack for oil mediums; the brush work on the Rooney is fantastic.
