how do you switch stance in grinds like that?

If I remember correctly, ride in the opposite stance from the stance you actually set, then pop onto the rail and then switch stance in the settings.. for some grinds you gotta time your switch in stance like for tailslides and boardslides I believe.. someone correct me if I'm wrong
