I just bought a camera. These are my first (decent) photos. I'm hoping to get out and shoot some skateboarding soon - maybe go skate day that will happen. Post yours.

ahh that was my original infatuation... then i got a nikon d80 with a 18-135m nikkor lens. It's a bitch of a hobby to get into with its unforgivable wallet wear.

Indeed. I was fortunate that it was on sale this month - still burned a very large hole in my wallet though.

Hey Mac, that first one is really good, I'd like to see that framed, a really emotive shot, it suggests action and freedom.

With the other two I'd of moved around a bit to make the background less cluttered.

As I said before Mac, you have a real talent for it. If you want any of your stuff printing, I manage a photo lab and will do you stuff for free (and the p&p) PM me if you're intrested.

Not bad at all. I'd watch your exposures the pictures of the flowers are a little under.

You probably have one but if you don't get a Skylight fliter as soon as possible, it's just a bit of clear glass that goes over the lens, better to crack a £15 filter than an expensive lens.

Hmm, how would I tell that a picture is going to be underexposed before looking at the larger version?/ how do i judge what kind of exposure to use? I know nothing.

Well, if you're using the manual function of the camera, the exposure would be effected by how much light you're letting into the camera as it takes the photo.

The more light you let in, the brighter, the less light you let in, the darker.

I believe it's controlled with the F stop? Correct me if I'm wrong. I have no clue how to control it on a Canon though.

you can control it with both F-Stop and Aperture priority

I think I know how to change that - assuming the F-Stops are the F# part that is changed in the aperture priority function. what I'm trying to ask is if there is a way to judge what Fstop I should be using. It's kind of hard to tell on the tiny little display if a picture is exposed properly.

Aperture Priotiry is a must, you'll get more creative control espeially if your just starting out. Just a thought if you're having problems with exposures try using bracketing, basically you take your shot then take another a half stop under and another a half stop over. You do this by using the aperture ring on the lens, though with your flash digital SLR there's probably a setting that'll make the camera do it automatically.

Stick with it lookingforgold you show promise, you certainly have a good eye for composition, rule of thirds and all that.

Some cool photos, I like the building and the record.
The flower pictures however need more focus on the flower itself and more of a blur in the backround.

I've added some pictures from a car show I went to today and will probably add a few more from some others later on. Criticism is always welcome; constructive or otherwise.

Also, does anyone know any good books I could read to learn more about photography?

I just returned from Croatia at about 3.30am. Phew, 2 weeks. MAN I'm glad to be home again.

I've got about 150+ pictures from the trip, I gotta sort them all out and upload the good ones to Deviantart.

Ooh nice one Mac. Nicely exposed, nice composition, I can see that being used for an album cover or something.
