Yeah, this was recorded back in the 80's with quite poor equipment. And this lo-fi recording-style formed what the upcoming black metal would become. A lot of people see this album by Bathory as the very first black metal-album. I know Venom existed, but they didn't have a crazy sound like this.

agreed. Venom had the subject matter but they still sounded more like thrash to me. Then Death came along. Gotta be the first melodic death metal band or at least the first well known one. Started only a few years after Bathory (ya I googled it, according to when the first album came out)

anyway, last song got buried on the last page

Love the sounds from the keyboard; I don't see that implemented in to many bands as of late. Real long intro, but once it started kicking, it was great. Not to sure about that riff on the guitar when things starting picking up, though. I think the singing's a bit too soft, but I suppose that's the the type of mood they were shooting for. Riff at about 6:30 really nice, as well. Things really start getting damn hard then; great progression throughout. Gotta check em out later.

Pearl Jam did a cover of a Mother Love Bone song; Crown of Thorns. I love it.

It was okay. Been having a hard time lately listening to power metal, it all sounds the same for me. Don't know why. I guess I'm tired of power metal, haha. Been listening to way too much black metal lately.

And here's some death metal, from Children Of Bodom's new album:

I didn't really enjoy listening to that. It was boring. I prefer the version they play on the show because it's a bit more dramatic and to the point. It's not bad music though.

    More Probot:

haha kinda funny you should say it was boring. Instrumental like the song you posted before it. That one however was more boring. To each their own. Just found it ironic.

anyway probot is pretty badass. Kinda reminds me of down or black label society. for sure in that ball park of metal.

singing reminded me of this. this song is classic. and the video is awesome lol (also kind of dancey like the other song a couple posts ago. bit more badass tho)

PS took me every ounce of strength to not post another power metal song. bin listening to dream evil a LOT ahha

With the exception of Pailhead, I never could get into the industrial induced scene. It doesn't do anything for me. This song is no exception.

Now for something completely different. An underrated duo that transcends the traditional hip-hop or rap genre, both musically and lyrically. I think they haven't done anything as a collective recently, which is unfortunate.

    Enjoy Dälek.

That was quite different, musically I loved it, mellow beat and samples, a bit psychedelic.

Here's something I've been listening to since a couple of days, since I've seen him at the Nice Jazz festival I've fallen in love with his music and especially his voice.
Most of you probably already know this song since it's a tribute to lewis marnell, played with his guitar.

For some reason, I never really could get into the whole Ben Harper thing, but I damn well enjoyed this song. Thanks for sharing. I might have to reconsider.

I most definitely am a DC hardcore and punk enthusiast, especially most things Dischord in the eighties and nineties. One of the bands I still appreciate to this very day, is Rites of Spring, a band that fell apart almost as soon as it started out. Yet the handful of shows the band did play are legendary in terms of passion and unconditional surrender.

Touché Amoré is a group of eager young people that are signed to the infamous Deathwish Inc. label and are currently hitting the stage with the kind of emotion, conviction and passion that might very well be the musical equivalent of some outfits such as the aforementioned Rites of Spring in the eighties or Swedish punks (and friends) Serene and Children of Fall in the nineties.

This, to me, is the kind of music that drives and inspires. Enjoy.

I'm not too sure about that one snail. The music/beat was good but I couldn't really understand the lyrics and it felt like they just got in the way. That's probably just because I had my volume low though.

Just found out that Black Sabbath were here in New Zealand a few months ago. Fuck. I would've gone to the show if I had known it was happening.

Just to clear up, you must give a short "review" of the song on posted before you. In this instance, you would rate Goon's song, then you'd post your song, someone else would rate it then post their song, etc.

    ya get'er back on track

I dont like teen anger vocals. just pure screaming. Only like either death growels/screams. deeper. and its more talking growl than a scream. Or power metal screams..."high notes" rather, with vibrato....in key. so its actually signing.

That definitely sounded a lot like Queen! Very competent musically with a lot of stuff going on at once. This is right up my alley. I like the sorta Bohemian Rhapsody-esque feeling at the start and then it shifts into something more epic. Not really feeling the vocals though, he sounds a bit too "young". Weird how it just ended like that, dont know if it was meant to be like that or not. Reminded me of the way Pull Me Under by Dream Theater ends.

    Overall, I enjoyed the song.

Here's a classical song by Yoshiki, drummer/pianist of the classic Japanese rock band X Japan.

Ahh Yes! Concerto Moon is amazing!

I love the Yngwie style in the intro and then it kicks into something much heavier than he usually does. And I'm so weak for japanese vocals!

I have a few of their albums. If you ever stumble across their album Rain Forest... BUY IT!

Here's a new band for me: Leverage. One of my followers on Spotify sent it to me the other day and they rock!

Thats one of those songs I heard all the time but never new what it was, thanks.
And I have to agree on the whole "not everyone likes metal" thing. I respect it, just not my thing.

I liked it, as with most stuff from the 90's.
The singer kinda looks like a Hispanic version of Brad Pitt from fight club.

Been loving this lately. Kinda has a bit of a Pink Floyd sound.

for a bit i didnt care for that band. seemed to radio ish. but then my dad bought one of their cds and the song that hey had on the radio was the shittiest song on the CD. Im pretty sure thats how it is with all those modern rock bands that are on the radio. they make a simple ass catchy less heavy song for all the sheep that listen to the radio. that was a pretty good song.

i think one of the top comments says it about this band

"This is the BEST non-existed band in the world."

haha the band from the movie rockstar with mark walburg. they had a legit sound track. Zakk Wylde did all the guitaring and he was actually in the movie.
